Google acquires ReCAPTCHA Inc

Google Inc has acquired ReCAPTCHA, a startup focused on developing online puzzles to distinguish human visitors to Web sites from automated intruders. ReCAPTCHA puzzles consist of words with distorted letters that computer users must read to access online services. ReCAPTCHA was founded by Dr. Luis von Ahn, who began the research on CAPTCHA (Completely Automatic Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart) puzzles. According to a press release, the company was originally funded by Carnegie Mellon’s Project Olympus for startups.
