Post-doctoral researcher in colour and appearance at the Colourlab, NTNU

A 2-year
full-time post-doctoral researcher position is available at the Department of
Computer Science at NTNU – The Norwegian University of Science and Technology,
in Gjøvik, Norway. The position is hosted at the Norwegian Colour and Visual
Computing Laboratory (Colourlab, www.colourlab.no),
and financed under the FRINATEK Toppforsk project – Measuring and Understanding
Visual Appearance (MUVApp).

* Work
description *

Visual
appearance and material perception is drawing the attention of more and more
vision scientists. Our overall goal is to gain new knowledge of how human
beings perceive the visual appearance of materials, objects, and scenes.
Material perception is a very complex process, and the appropriate dimensions,
feature spaces and perception metrics are only beginning to be studied.

The
initial plan is for the postdoctoral researcher to investigate material
perception based on psychometric scaling experiments and/or neuro-imaging. The
candidate is expected to carry out consistent and well-designed psychometric
scaling experiments to investigate the relationship between human perception
and physical stimuli. There is an opportunity to perform physiological recordings
(such as EEG or fMRI) to better understand the neural mechanisms of material
perception.

However,
also other research directions within the broad field of measuring and
understanding visual appearance (including attributes of color, gloss, translucency,
and texture) can be relevant. Candidates will articulate their initial research
ideas in the required one page proposal. The exact research focus and plan will
be developed by the selected researcher after starting, under supervision by
Associate Professor Marius Pedersen and Professor Jon Y. Hardeberg, and
including collaboration with other project members at NTNU and at the associate
partner institutions internationally.

The
position is for two years full time or potentially extended to three years with
teaching duties. For more information about the lab and the project, see
